General Info

Tucked away in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Ikan Bakar Berek 12 is the kind of spot that instantly pulls you in with the smoky aroma of grilled seafood and a laid-back local vibe. From the moment you arrive, the casual setting and free street parking make it easy to settle in and focus on what really matters-the food.

The menu here revolves around traditional Malaysian grilled seafood, and it truly shines. One of the standout experiences is the Ikan Bakar Tradisional, where fresh fish is grilled to perfection with rich, smoky flavors that feel both comforting and bold. If you’re after something a little more special, the Ikan Bawal Emas Bakar delivers a slightly richer taste, with tender meat that pairs beautifully with local dipping sauces.

For those who enjoy variety, the selection of Sotong and Kerisi offers a satisfying mix of textures-perfectly charred on the outside while staying juicy inside. Meanwhile, the intriguingly named Ike Bakar Tawar Rare Bohhku adds a unique twist to the menu, giving regular diners something new to explore. To balance out the grilled dishes, don’t miss the Ulam, a refreshing assortment that brings a crisp, herbal contrast to the smoky mains.

The restaurant is ideal for dine-in experiences, especially if you’re looking to enjoy halal food in a relaxed environment. The atmosphere leans casual and welcoming, making it suitable for solo visits or small gatherings. The availability of small plates also makes it easy to sample multiple dishes in one sitting, which honestly feels like the best way to experience the menu.

One of the highlights here is the late-night food offering. Whether you’re wrapping up a long day or just craving something flavorful after hours, this place keeps the grill going, ensuring you don’t miss out. It’s these little details that make the overall experience feel thoughtful and accommodating.

What stands out most about Ikan Bakar Berek 12 isn’t just the food-it’s how everything comes together. The combination of fresh ingredients, traditional grilling techniques, and a friendly, no-frills setting creates a dining experience that feels authentic and satisfying. What customers say?

“ Believe the other reviews. We went and confirmed. Totally fresh seafood. Reasonable price. Unlimited ulam buffet. West Coasters may find it hard to get used to budu instead of air asam, but the fish/sotong are good enough without garnish/condiments. ”

- Chris Tan -

“ This is a no-nonsense roadside eatery serving the freshest seafood around. They're so confident of the freshness of their fish that the fish is grilled clean and they only provide sambal belacan with a slice of lime and budu as condiments. No special sauces to mask any smells. Good for large groups. Parking is easy. Reversing out into the busy main road can be dangerous. Don't go there in your best clothes unless you them sweaty and smoky. Also be prepared for nasi tambah ”

- Amos -

“ One of the freshest seafood places I've been. This place only served fresh grilled fish, squid with rice. The sambal is nice. Yes, yes, yes will return. ”
